July 27 2024 - Beauty Supply & The Old Guard

7/27/2024

Picture
I filled The Purple Room with summertime vibes this week, to go with the beautiful, long days we’ve been having. And speaking of beauty, Noname, who is featured on this week’s cover, takes on the mythical connection between outer appearance and self-love in Beauty Supply from her 2023 album Sundial (which is a BANGER, please check it out).

I also featured the amazing Lijadu Sisters who earned their place on the stage of the 1972 World Music Festival with their dope intertwining of Afrobeat, Jazz and Disco music.

Thanks again for listening and here’s this week’s full playlist:

This week in The Purple Room we continued exploring the Zamrock sound with Jesper Siliya Lungu’s Hot Do. We also paid tribute to the incredible sound of the Hammond B3 organ with music from Seattle’s Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio and “Brother” Jack McDuff.

This week’s cover features Ntjam Rosie whose blend of soul and jazz filled the Purple Room walls this weekend.

I hope you enjoyed the show; follow PurpleRoomRadio on IG for playlists of the full archives.
